Heirloom Artwork Commission
Heirloom artwork from Appalachian Creations VA is designed to capture meaningful moments, family traditions, and personal stories through handcrafted wooden art. Each piece is created to order and built entirely by hand, ensuring that every project becomes a one-of-a-kind work meant to be displayed proudly for generations.
Because every heirloom piece is unique, the process begins with a collaborative design phase that allows your ideas, inspiration, and personal details to shape the final artwork.
Step 1 – Design Consultation & Stencil Creation
To begin the design process, a $75 design deposit is required. At this stage, you may provide reference images, design inspiration, family names, meaningful locations, or other source material that will help guide the concept.
Using this information, a custom stencil and working design layout will be developed to serve as the blueprint for the final artwork. This stage allows the design to be refined so the finished piece reflects your vision before production begins.
Each project includes two complimentary design revisions to ensure the artwork meets your expectations. Additional revisions are available for $25 per revision.
Step 2 – Project Quote & Scheduling
Once the design has been finalized, a detailed quote will be provided based on the projected time required to create the piece.
Heirloom artwork is priced using an hourly rate of $20 per hour, calculated based on the time required for cutting, shaping, assembling, and finishing the artwork. This estimate reflects active working hours only and does not include drying or curing time for glues, stains, paints, or finishes.
To secure your place in the production schedule, a 50% deposit of the quoted project cost is required once the design is approved.
Step 3 – Handcrafted Creation
Once the project is booked, construction begins in the workshop.
Each component of the artwork is individually cut, shaped, sanded, and assembled by hand. Many heirloom pieces feature layered construction techniques that create dimensional depth, allowing the artwork to interact with light and shadow in a way that brings the design to life.
Paints, stains, and protective finishes are applied carefully to highlight the natural character of the materials while preserving the piece for years to come.
Because these materials must properly cure between stages, most heirloom commissions require approximately 2–4 weeks to complete depending on the size and complexity of the design.
Step 4 – Completion & Final Payment
Once the artwork is finished, you will receive photographs of the completed piece prior to delivery.
At that time, the remaining balance plus shipping costs will be due before the artwork is packaged and shipped.
Artwork Meant to Last Generations
Heirloom artwork is created with the intention of becoming more than simple décor. Each piece is thoughtfully crafted to represent memories, heritage, and personal stories through traditional craftsmanship.
The result is a meaningful work of art designed to be displayed today and cherished for generations to come.
